Mar last lesson is April 2021, and she was very pleased with all her instructors and staff of the Puketapapa Community Driving School (PCDS) team. "A lot of changes happened after I passed the practical test. I am very happy that I can go out by herself. Previously, I always takes my mum wherever I go and now I can drive alone and at nighttime as well. Beacuse of this, I am very happy I was able to get a full-time job too. Everything goes smooth because I got the licence."
Hikmah is a single mum with two kids. "I am now very confident and independent to go around. I can drive my kids to kindy and going shopping is easy. I plan to get a job after the lockdown. I also overcome my fear in multi-laned roundabout but because of the patience of the Puketapapa Community Driving School instructors and the moral support I was able to pass the test."
Dewa started her lesson, December 2020 and took her practical test in July 2021. "I am very thankful for all the hard work of the instructors and mentors. They are all amazing in teaching & ready to help anytime. Everything is perfect & has no issue."
She had her last lesson and mock test last 31st of May and she took the practical test, June 2021. Translated "This is my second try and I am so glad I pass it. On the second test I was able to do well the reverse parallel parking which is my problem on the first practical test. After the test, there is no opportunity to drive since we no car. My family plan to buy a car in December. I plan to go back to Puketāpapa Community Driving School to practice again and eventually get her full licence. I am very thankful with the teachers of Puketapapa Community Driving School."
She had thirteen lessons and took the practical test on 14 July, and she passed on the first try. "I used to drive back home for years but since I came to NZ, 6 years ago, I stopped driving. My friend offered me to drive her car, but I was too nervous about driving in NZ because it is on the opposite side of the road. I felt hopeless about passing the driving test as she did not have a car to practice on and I was a student. I could not afford the expensive driving lessons. I was introduced by a friend to Umma Trust, which collaborates with Puketapapa Community Driving School. I grab the ten free driving classes and the extra classes at a small contribution to female immigrants. I started the lessons last March 2021 and had different instructors. I am happy with all my instructors because they are excellent and were able to take note of my weaknesses and customised the lessons to mer. I also, had mock tests with different instructors and helped me practice for the test. Getting the driving licence helped me increase my chance to get jobs and discover our lovely country as before, as we used to rely on public transport to visit places which limited our choices. Our communication was quite professional, and they were quite accommodating to my schedule. I like their social impact, helping migrants and refugees, as driving is quite important in gaining independence. They were all amazing and made the experience of driving in NZ enjoyable.”
Zewdie is a mother that never give up for her family. "I always having a hard time executing the reverse parallel parking as I always hits the curb. The instructors have given all their time and patience for me to pass the practical test. I was very happy I pass and able to support my family." Translated by daughter
Jenny started her driving lesson, February 2021 and took her practical test 17 August 2021, a day before the lockdown Covid 19 Delta. "I am very thankful for the management, instructors and mentors for helping me get the restricted licence. I will now be able to get a better job."
