Does your car pass the test?

Before you take your practical driving test, the testing officer will complete a pre-drive safety check on your car. This is to make sure the car you are driving is safe to be on the road. If your car does not pass the pre-drive safety check, you will fail the test and have to book another time and pay again.

Here is a list of things that you will need to check before you complete you driving test:

  • There is enough fuel in your car for the length of the test.
  • The Learner (L) plates are displayed if sitting your Restricted Licence test.
  • The car needs to have a current Warrant of Fitness (WoF) and vehicle registration licence. If it is a diesel vehicle, it needs to have current Road User Charges.
  • Mirrors are clean and correctly adjusted
  • Seatbelt and horn work as they should
  • Headlights and indicators are working, including your park/brake lights.
  • Wipers are working correctly and the windscreen is clean
  • Tyres have correct tread (legal minimum is 1.5mm), and the car sits square on the road
  • Car body is in good, safe condition – minor dents and scratches are okay.

If you are not sure if your car will pass the test, why not hire one of our dual-control cars to take the test in. This is available when test is booked at a testing station near us.
